Flagship’s Response to COVID-19 and Shelter in Place

First off, above everything we'll mention below, THANK YOU to all of our members who have supported us during these challenging times. It's your generosity that is allowing us to provide support back to you - and hopefully helping with your physical, mental, and emotional fitness during SiP.

So here's what your favorite gym was up to since Shelter in Place began:

 

Even before SiP was officially announced, the Flagship team was working furiously to address the COVID-19 health crisis. That started with a new workout program for people to do at home with minimal or no gear. That has since transformed into "Peak from Home" - a 5-days-per-week program to keep you moving and improving!

As SiP went into place Monday 3/16, we finalized our initial plan to transform what we could offer onto a digital platform. The Flagship team essentially became a startup overnight! Fortunately, besides a dedicated and hard-working coaching staff, we have some VERY smart people on our team. With their help, we went to work!

  • Wednesday 3/18 - just 2 days after SiP started, we launched our Community Slack group to provide members with an individual coach and a place to communicate with gym friends and share information. More on that below...

  • Also on 3/18, we opened up Upper Market and SoMa to loan out gear so our members could better train at home. Since then we’ve loaned out gear at FiDi as well, and have essentially emptied the gyms of all dumbbells, kettlebells, and other weighted objects!

  • Thursday 3/19 - we did our first Live Stream via Zoom. For the following months we were Live EVERY day! We were running 15 Peak from Home classes per week, plus Mobility, Town Halls, At Home Strength, and 30-minute Sweat classes. As minimal outdoor classes became available, and eventually indoor classes, we scaled back our live streams to Peak from Home Monday-Friday.

From that first week on we continued to refine and improve - much like our approach to movement and coaching!

The Slack group became a platform for communication - members and coaches chatting with each other, and coaches giving lots of 1-on-1 help to those who want it. We ran nutrition workshops, workout challenges, gymnastics skill progressions, weekly town halls on ALL KINDS of topics, along with lots of fun stuff like the #flagship_pets or #get_this_bread channels!

We also added additional workout programs to fit your needs. Besides Peak from Home and At Home Strength, we added The Daily Bell (time-efficient workouts for those with DBs/KBs), Run Wod (for those that want to get outside), and Sweat (30-minutes of WORK). Benchmark Fridays, weekly #Battleship challenges, #Calebs_Core-ner, and Brendan's #Handbalancing gave you more options for your fitness. And for those with equipment to do it, we continued to program Peak and Conditioning workouts each week.

Going Forward

As we look ahead to re-opening, our sights are focused on providing the community the safest, most welcoming experience possible. We’ll of course be following CDC guidelines and recommendations from the State and City, and diligently cleaning equipment to keep the space disinfected and safe. We took pride in the cleanliness of our gyms before, but now we’ll take it to another level!
